In Delta and throughout the region, a broad range of individuals, groups, and media are stating the truth: GATEWAY SUCKS. It is NOT a done deal - it's a dumb deal! - and we can stop it. Following news that BC was the only province to see substantial increase of greenhouse gas emissions in 2008, our Climate Action Now! on Sunday with the Delta/Richmond Council of Canadians was well received:

Hot on the heels of our action, and with local movements growing on several fronts, The Delta Free Press web newspaper replaced its "business" section with "environment", stating that "the environment is everyone's business".
And we're feeling it. While Gordon Campbell gazes ever deeper into the rear view mirror, more and more of us are looking to the future. From the media in Surrey and Delta, to the burgeoning youth movement, to rock solid support from MLAs like Guy Gentner and Vicki Huntington, this movement is stronger than ever.
To top it all off, the buzz is that this whole thing could be teetering on shaky ground. Let's do our part to push it over! Contact info@gatewaysucks.org to come to our next meeting and be part of the fun.
Events this week:
* Concerned about unlimited industrial growth linked with projects like Gateway? The Vancouver De-growth conference runs from today (April 29) to Sunday (May 2) in Vancouver. Look for our info table there and drop us a line at info@gatewaysucks.org to volunteer for a couple hours.
* Each year, a series of free guided tours called "Jane's Walks" are held in various cities to celebrate the legacy of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs. This Sunday May 2, bring your bicycle for a "Jane's Ride" in North Surrey's historic Bridgeview neighbourhood! Hosted by Bernadette "No Truckin' Freeway" Keenan, this tour will highlight the resilience of this community in the face of repeated attempts to industrialize it out of existence. Register here.
* Stay tuned for more Gateway busting action. No pasaran!
We can squeeze a lot of action out of a few bucks. Please donate to GatewaySucks with the orange Paypal button on our website or email info@gatewaysucks.org to make arrangements. Thanks for your support!

1 comment postedI completely understand the environmental issues behind the Gateway Project but what really angers me is that the Prime Contractor (an American Firm) has a majority of american workers managing and working on this project. It disgust me that the government has allowed the contractor the ability to go outside our country and employ non-canadian workers. This Project not only is a major environmental issue, it also degrades Canadians as the government allows american workers to run the project. We have very skilled workers within Canada that should be on the project not a bunch of yanks. Send them back south of the border. They would do the same to us.
